ICDL Asia is delighted to announce that Sarawak Skills (Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak) has officially joined our global network as an Accredited Test Centre (ATC) in Malaysia. This marks a key milestone for digital skills development in the Sarawak region.
We look forward to supporting Sarawak Skills in alignment with the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030. A key goal of this Blueprint is to help people use their skills to succeed in the digital world and create a system where everyone can benefit from a thriving digital economy.
The Blueprint also aims for all Sarawakians to be digitally literate, with confidence in using digital technology. These benefits to society demonstrate the importance of digital talent and inclusivity as the foundation of success in digital transformation.
Through this partnership with ICDL, Sarawak Skills aims to enhance the employability of its graduates by positioning itself as a provider of internationally recognised digital skills via ICDL certification programmes. With learning centres in Kuching, Miri, Mukah, and Sri Aman, Sarawak Skills seeks to expand opportunities for all Sarawakians, equipping them with relevant digital skills as demanded by today’s employers.
ICDL applauds the Sarawak government for prioritising a pipeline of job-ready graduates with advanced digital skills to address the needs of businesses and the public sector. This will be achieved through industry-focused upskilling and reskilling programmes, including structured programmes in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
ICDL implementation at Sarawak Skills also adds real value by supporting lifelong learning and opening doors to collaboration with other Accredited Test Centres worldwide. By expanding its certification offerings, Sarawak Skills aims to benefit more candidates and to continue its mission in preparing individuals and organisations to thrive in today’s era of digital transformation.
About Sarawak Skills
Sarawak Skills (Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak) was formed in 1994 under the Societies Act 1966. It was established through the efforts of the Ministry of Industrial Development Sarawak in response to the Federal Government’s directive that each state in Malaysia should establish a skills development training centre. In Sarawak, industry partners would become members of Sarawak Skills without being shareholders, and the management and administration of the centre would be implemented by a Management Council elected every 3 years.
Various organisations were invited by the then State Secretary to establish Sarawak Skills. At the inaugural meeting, 15 companies were present, and they became the founding members of Sarawak Skills. Currently, Sarawak Skills has 85 members from various industry sectors such as oil and gas, plantation (oil palm), timber, manufacturing, engineering, aviation and many other priority industries. Indeed, the members’ numerous contributions over the years have enabled Sarawak Skills to provide the very best of industry-relevant education and training for the populace. This has facilitated the ongoing transformation of Sarawak for the benefit of all stakeholders.
In a nutshell, Sarawak Skills is one of the State Skills Development Centres endorsed by both the Malaysian Federal Government and Sarawak Government. It is also a member of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC). Today, the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions offers a wide range of industry-relevant academic and skills programmes. As a registered training provider with the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), the Group also delivers customised training programmes in both technical and soft skills.
