Case Study: Yayasan TM and CNERGY

Established in 1994, Yayasan TM (YTM), the foundation arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) – the country’s largest telecommunications company – has long championed educational advancement by providing scholarships, grants, bursaries, living allowances, and financial assistance to students, regardless of their family background.

Over the years, YTM has sponsored more than 18,000 students to further their studies in government schools and universities in Malaysia and abroad, with a total sponsorship value exceeding RM 631 million.

Since 2021, YTM has embarked on a transformative journey to enhance its social impact throughout Malaysia. With a focus on three core pillars: Education; Community & Nation Building; and Art, Culture & Heritage, YTM is dedicated to initiatives that empower Malaysians and support sustainable socio-economic growth, while aligning with its core objectives.

CNERGY, also known as Unitele Multimedia Sdn Bhd, was established in 1999 as the training arm of Multimedia University (MMU). It firmly believes that true progress lies in people, and therefore prioritises creating a better future for all, whereby innovation and progress go hand in hand with positive societal impact.

With its expertise and resources, CNERGY is committed towards empowering individuals and organisations to unlock their potential and become future-ready – not just keeping up with technological development, but also making progress by embracing change.

In partnering with academic institutions, government agencies, and industry leaders, CNERGY delivers comprehensive solutions, including consulting services, research and development initiatives, and corporate training programmes, designed to help clients keep ahead of the curve and thrive in an ever-evolving future.

Following the success of a pilot project, YTM announced in September 2021 that all Scholars under its Future Leaders Scholarship programme would complete the following 8 ICDL modules, thus ensuring they are well-prepared to excel in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

By embedding ICDL within the YTM Future Leaders Scholarship Structured Development Programme as an essential component, digital skills have become a key pillar of the scholars’ learning journey. In addition, YTM and CNERGY are developing a new competency framework to further enhance the scholars’ capabilities in fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing.
