The third ICDL Asia Digital Challenge Grand Final took place from 10 – 12 September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 20 finalists from 9 countries, including Bhutan, China, India, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam participated in the competition this year.
The contestants booked their tickets to the Grand Final after a rigorous 2-rounds national qualification. For the first round, students had to sit through 2 ICDL Base Modules certification tests. The top 2 students from each participating school qualified for the National Round, where they pit their knowledge against fellow participants from other schools. For the National Round, students had to complete another 2 ICDL Intermediate/Advanced tests based on the tracks they selected – (1) Business & Finance and (2) Design & Engineering.
The top 2 participants for each track was then selected to represent their country for the Grand Final. For the Grand Final, students were expected to submit a report based on the project brief provided for both tracks. They were then given 1 month to prepare the final presentation, which they will present to a panel of 3 judges on 11 September at the University of Malaya, Malaysia.

The panel judges were extremely impressed by the submissions and skills showcased by each student, particularly the data prepared in the report, showcasing the students’ seriousness in preparing the report.
Mr Sean Senevirante,
Regional Technical Manager from Siemens Industry Software commented, “I came
here today with a conservative expectation as I know they are just students,
especially those from the secondary category. However, I am blown away by their
professional presentation and excellent performance for the grand final.”
Mr Senevirante is one of the panel judge for the Design & Engineering
category. He is accompanied by Mr. Kris Chen, Business Manager from Shining 3D
EinScan APAC and Mr. Kenneth Lee, Human Resource (Branding & Recruitment)
from Shopee.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kieran Quigley, Executive Director of Openet Telcom Malaysia, Mr. Shim Jaedok, Business Development Manager of Korea Productivity Center as well as Ms. Tina Wu, General Manager of ICDL Asia were the panel judges for the Business & Finance track.
