HELLA-BST: ICDL journey for the youths in India

On 8th February 2018, Bal Swavlamban Trust, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Hella, celebrated the first anniversary of their Digital Empowerment Centre. A ceremony was held to distribute ICDL certificates to the passing candidates. The initiative aims to help young people in Dhankot, where Hella has a manufacturing plant, to develop digital skills and become employable in some capacity.

The ICDL India team has collaborated closely with the team at Hella in India to curate a computer training programme using ICDL Computer Essentials and Online Essentials modules. The philosophy behind the selection of the modules is to ensure that the candidates have their ICT foundations completely firm and solid before they embark on the journey of further skills upgradation.

The Chief guest Mr. Naveen Gautam (Managing Director, Hella India) Stressed on making the students independent for employability by learning the essential skills like computer technology in a proper environment and through a standard curriculum.

One of the students, Abhishek Singh (Class 11th), talked about how his friends view him as the go to guy for basic computer issues after his course at Hella-BST. He stressed on the need for starting from basic foundation of computer skills so that one can then proceed to obtain higher levels & progress.

Another beneficiary of this initiative, Aarti runs an NGO. Aarti spoke about the changes learning the basic skills of computers brought in her life and how she can manage her daily work better now.

The students of Hella-BST come from very different backgrounds, mainly high school students but also a few graduates and one young house wife as well. On the occasion of the certificate distribution ceremony, other students also shared their experiences and the changes the program has brought to their lives.
