The annual ICDL Asia Digital Literacy Day 2022 was successfully held at National Economics University (NEU), Hanoi, Vietnam and virtually via Zoom on 8 September 2022.

In its 6th iteration, the event gathered over 300 attendees from 14 territories, making it one of ICDL’s largest hybrid events in recent years.

THE THEME: ACCELERATING DIGITAL LITERACY IN ASIA

ICDL Asia Digital Literacy Day 2022 is a regional event conducted annually to promote the importance of digital literacy. It also serves as a platform for academic leaders, industry experts and training providers to share key industry trends and best practices of digital skills and digital learning in Asia.

We welcomed Dr. To Hong Nam, Deputy Director of Information Technology Department, Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), Vietnam, Mr. Seán Farrell, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Ireland, Vietnam, Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, from NEU, Vietnam, amongst our distinguished guests, partners and students at the event.

At the event, Dr. To Hong Nam shared, “For digital transformation to be successful in Vietnam, we need to build a community of digital citizens with strong digital skills who tap on the advantages of digital technology in their daily life activities. Digital skills are not only computer skills, but also knowledge and skills that help us to live and work in the digital environment safely and effectively. In recent years, the Ministry of Education and Technology has paid special attention to fostering, training and educating students, teachers and staff to enhance their digital capabilities in this digital era through the regular IT contest and extracurricular programme in the schools.”

NEU has identified digital technology and digital transformation as one of its priority targets for investment and development in recent years. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong said,:”Technology has been integrated into all areas of our school, from learning, teaching to research. NEU has also followed the digital trend in adding new majors such as Data Science and Digital Skills to the Management Technology School. All of that proved the essential role of digital technology in school.”

Mr. Sean Farrell also shared in his speech, “We are living in digital economy and COVID pandemic has greatly accelerated the pace at which industry, education and everyday life is becoming more digitised and moving more online. It is important that we proactively prepare for the digital economy and ensure that we will be able to take advantage of benefit of technology and use every opportunity that is created.

ICDL is an expert in digital literacy in the Asia markets. We are very proud that an Irish organisation is rolling out such an ambitious programme to promote digital literacy and skills in Asia in general and in Vietnam in particular.”
